The Harrison Lake experience
Hello again,
Yesterday, I went to Harrison Lake in B.C, Canada. More specifically, near the Harrison Hot Springs, which is a town that outlooks the lake itself. The name suggested that there are hot spring nearby, which there is, just not available to public.
My experience there was sort of ok, it's not bad but it's not good either. Let's talk about the good thing. First, it's a lake. That means the water aren't salty. Usually, when you go to the beach, it's great, the water is cool, the breeze are nice and the sun are warm, but one thing is the fact that the water is salty, so when you accidentally take a gulp, your throat does not feel so good. Swimming at a lake avoided all that and instead replaced it with normal water. Second thing, the scenery is nice. You get to look at mountains and small island.
Then we get to the bad things. First, the water is very cold. Technically, in Canada, it's still Summer. But that doesn't mean the water is warm, in fact, it's very much cold. You can't get into the water without thinking about how you're going to likely suffer from hypothermia as your skin get redder and redder due to the coldness of the water and all of your limbs become entirely numb and you struggle to even move your finger. And when you retreat back to land, you get hit by the breeze which does not help the situation at all, and the hot sand if it's noon. You basically have 3 choices, stay on sands and get sunburnt, get in water and likely become very cold, or avoid everything entirely and stay on ground. The third option always seems much better. You can never stay in the water for more than 15 minutes without getting everything numb and you are also very likely to catch a cold the next day. Secondly, the Floating Water Themed Park place. There is a water park place nearby that have all this fun activities you can do, if it's a little warmer. The slides on there is filled with little pebbles and grains of sand that made it painful to slide down. Your best bet is to get soak in the water, and slide down on you life vest. You have to wear life vest, which they made it so that you can't even breathe normally. The different size are ridiculous, there's Child, XS (extra small), Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large. AND I have to wear XS. Then there's other activities which involves parkour, but if you failed, you get to experience absolute zero water, which in scientific term means negative 273 degrees Celsius, and stay in there long enough, hypothermia is no longer a myth.
Overall, every experience has its pro and cons. In this case, the pros are scenery and fun and the cons are the cold water. I think Harrison Lake would have been more fun if you got there in the middle of the Summer when the water are still warm. But this place is 140 km from where I live and the question is: "Was it worth it?" Maybe. If you're Wim Hof, this might be the place for you, if you're mortal human, not so much. Final rating for this place: 7.5/10, would have been much better in middle of summer.
I guess this is the longest review you have ever written. Great experience, for sure. Write more and publish more often, Harry.
